well im back, and this pear wine is fantastic, you have to make it for yourselfs. iv not got a juicer so i grated the pears on my cheese grater skin and everything. then squeezed the juice out through a tea towel. its taking its time to clear but it tastes great.

I use 1/2 a teaspoon of glucose per pint of beer, make a syrup if you are bottling a large amount.

I have a neighbor that has some grape vines that he never picks. I'm not sure on what type of grape it is they are fairly small green grapes nothing like you pickup in the store. I may have to snag some next season and give this a try. I have a garden myself but I mostly grow vegetables -- Only fruit I have is a few strawberry pots but I don't think they would produce enough for wine.

I tried drying them by using the hairdryer because I didn't have room to hang them up... some of my friends even put the bottles in the microwave... that doesn't sound healthy to me!

I simply fill my bottles with water and then add a few granules of granular pool chlorine - leave for an hour, rise and you're ready to bottle :-)

Kate , the idea of using a demijohn with an airlock (the bubbly thing) on top is to try and prevent unwanted bacteria and wild yeasts that are present in the atmosphere from entering the demijohn and ruining the wine while also allowing the carbon dioxide produced to escape. I have also always put sterilising solution into the airlock.
