Clone Brews

Do you have a favourite beer when you visit the pub? Personally I like the Spitfire Premium Ale. Have you ever thought wouldn’t it be great to make some yourself. Well now is your chance. Here’s how…

I’ve recently bought the book ‘Clone Brews- by Tess and Mark Szamatulski’. In it is detailed the recipes for making 150 commercial clone beers, and yes the Spitfire ale is in there.

Now depending on how you brew you beer, there is a recipe for you, if you brew from extract or if you brew using all grain, or if you are a bit of both and use some grain and some extract then there are recipes for everyone.

I haven’t ventured yet into making beer from extract, that is the next little project. From my point of view there are some excellent beer in this book. Some of my favourites is Spitfire, Old Speckled Hen, Bass, there is even a guiness clone. These are just the british beers, there are a number from around the world, Steinlager is one I’ll definately try as is Sam Adams (it’ll remind me of my time in the States). Tsing-Tao is one I know I like already so that will be going on my list.

All the recipes are for 5US gallons, but can easily be tweeked to for different volumes. I’m going to try a half brew, that way I can try more recipes without filling the house with beer.

It definately is worth a look.
